In today’s world people are harassed and assaulted because of which of these words they identify with. From 2012 up to 2012 there was a drastic change in reported hate crimes against members of the LGBT community. Shooting from 11% to 40%, in just a few months. People are unnecessarily becoming victims simply because of what they like,because of what they can not change. People do not choose what they are attracted to sexually. Scientists have yet to produce any evidence to suggest that sexual orientation is determined by a particular factor or factors.(Sexual Orientation Homosexuality) It is even said that â€Å" most people have little to no choice when its comes to sexual orientation†. If someone can truly change or choose if they are gay or lesbian or straight would it not be easy for them to just come out and say that they are not gay anymore? Correct, they can say that they don t feel an attraction to the same sex but most of the time it wouldn t be true. If people could actually choose color it should be easy to change this for the ones who do attempt to do so. People who are gay or lesbian describe their attraction as â€Å"something more than just choice, it is a feeling, a deep attraction and just can t be â€Å"turned off† when they feel like it. Conversion therapy is just what it sounds like. This therapy is an attempt to make a child straight. To show them that being gay is a choice. conversion therapy is essentially putting out that â€Å"It s your fault that you re gay. You chose to live this life but, I can help you! I can rid these â€Å"bad† feelings you have and make you who you are supposed to be†. When in actuality conversion therapy is very dangerous,It can lead to that child to have self-hatred if not increase and self-hatred that they may

Whats So Special About the Galapagos Islands

The Galapagos Islands are the home of modern ecology, where noted ecologist Charles Darwin developed his theories on evolution and adaptation.  And they are the location that ecologists from all over the world continue to flock to in their studies of the worlds most unique ecosystems. But what is so special about the Galapagos Islands? There are two major factors that have contributed to the unique environment found in the Galapagos - an island chain west of Ecuador. One is the island chains extreme isolation from other areas. Long ago, a variety of species made their way to the Galapagos Islands. Over time, these parent-species colonized the islands while evolving peculiar characteristics suitable to their environment. Another major factor that  makes the Galapagos Islands so unique is the areas unusual climate. The islands straddle the equator, making the climate temperate. But the current carrying waters from the chilly  Antarctic  and North Pacific cools the water surrounding the islands. These two conditions combine to make the Galapagos Islands a breeding ground for some of the worlds most interesting ecological research. Galapagos Islands Species Are a Treasure Trove of  Ecological Specimens Giant Tortoise: The Galapagos Giant Tortoise is the largest living species of tortoise in the world. Undisturbed, this species can live over 100 years, making it one of the longest-living vertebrates on record. Darwins Finches: In addition to the giant tortoise, the Galapagos finches played a large role in the development of Darwins theory of evolution. About 13 different species exist on the islands, each with unique beak characteristics especially suited to their habitat. By observing the finches, Darwin theorized that the finches descended from the same species, but adapted to become seed-eaters or insect-eaters with specialized beaks suited to their habitat needs. Marine  Iguana: The islands marine lizard is the only existing species of marine lizard on the planet.  The theory is that this lizard made its way into the water to find food since it couldnt find any on land. This marine lizard feeds on seaweed and has specially adapted nasal glands to filter out the salt from its food. Flightless Cormorant: The Galapagos Islands are the only place in the world where cormorants have lost the ability to fly. Their tiny wings and huge feet help the birds dive in the water and balance on land and they may even serve as heat regulators. But their inability to fly has made them particularly vulnerable to introduced predators - such as dogs, rats, and pigs - that have been brought to the islands. Galapagos Penguins:  The Galapagos penguins are not only one of the smallest species of penguins in the world, but they are also the only one to live north of the equator.   Blue-Footed Boobies:  This cute little bird with the funny-sounding name can be recognized easily by its signature blue feet.  And while it is not found exclusively on the Galapagos Islands, about half of the worlds population breeds there. Galapagos Fur Seal: The fur seal is one of the only endemic mammal species in the Galapagos Islands. It is also the smallest eared seal in the world. Their riotous barks have made them as much of a hallmark of the islands as any of the areas other unique species.

Juvenile delinquents are children/adolescents that are between the ages of 10 and 18 and have committed any illegal act that violates the law. These acts arent usually referred to as â€Å"crimes† as they would be for adults. These â€Å"crimes† are committed by minors and are called â€Å"delinquent acts.† These delinquent acts are believed to be caused by a number of factors that include the minors brain development, environment and social interactions. Peer groups are a very strong influence that can cause delinquent behavior in many adolescents. When friends commit crimes, adolescents often pick up the behaviors and rarely see the consequences that follow after the crime is committed. Peer group rejection can also be the cause of juvenile†¦show more content†¦Some states have automatic transfer laws that require juvenile cases to be transferred to adult criminal court under certain pretenses; the offender is a certain age or older 16 and/or The char ges involve a serious or violent offense, such as rape or murder. Usually, juveniles and their attorneys fight to keep a case in juvenile court being that there is a risk it could be transferred. However, there are both advantages and disadvantages to being tried in adult criminal court. One being that minors have the right to a jury trial in adult court and juries are usually more lenient and more sympathetic to minors. In some places where jails are crowded the court may be forced to dispose of the juveniles case more quickly and impose a lighter sentencing. Some of the disadvantages for juveniles in adult court are the juveniles are subject to more severe sentences, the judges in adult court do not have the wide range of punishment and treatment options that are available to juvenile court judges; such as imposing a curfew or ordering counseling instead of jail time. in addition the juvenile may have to serve time in adult jail or prison, rather than in juvenile detention centers.
